On January 1, 2015 new rules went into effect, as imposed by The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) . These new rules require employers to report all claims to their insurers, even those considered first-aid or small claims.
To fully comply with the WCIRB's reporting requirement, effective January 1, 2015, United Western Insurance Brokers shall begin advising its clients that all first-aid claims should be reported to their carriers, and all claims that are reported shall then appear on the company’s loss history.
California Labor Code, Section 5401(a), defines "first aid" as "any one-time treatment, and any follow-up visit for the purpose of observation of minor scratches, cuts, burns, splinters, or other minor industrial injury, which do not ordinarily require medical care."
